Calling Queer Animation Students!
To celebrate the publication of , the GALA Queer Archive and Taboom Media want to bring these stories to life. We are looking for 5 talented queer final year animation students to help animate these stories to continue our Queer Activism in Africa.
In August 2022, Taboom Media and GALA Queer Archive launched Courage to Share, the second volume in their Queer Activism in Africa anthology series.
In Courage to Share, 28 human rights defenders from across the continent share their origin stories and activist journeys. These intimate testimonies of strength and vulnerability, all available in both English and French, document and elevate our collective fight for LGBTQIA+ equality.
It is with this backdrop that we want to give these stories a creative life using animation.
Application Deadline: Friday 07 October
BRIEF + WORKSHOP
Final year animation students will be required to choose one story from either of the two volumes in the Queer Activism in Africa anthology series: Hopes and Dreams That Sound Like Yours + Courage to Share.
There are over 50 stories to choose from!
Animation students will work closely with two talented queer designers, Vee Motingia & Steffen Fischer (Afrika Queer+), over 8 weeks of creative online workshops where they will guide and assist you in realising your animations. The stories that will be used to inspire the animations are short (usually 2-3 pages), and as such these will be short animations which can be easily and widely shared on social media platforms.
