Margins for error

Celebrating Queer Cultural Production - 08 - 17 November 2024

Margins for error is a cultural programme that coincides with the 31st ILGA World Conference in Cape Town. This programme intends to create a conversational, fun and educational space to share the cultural work produced by queer people from all around the world. The GALA Queer Archive invites you to attend and/or contribute to this exciting series of events.

Official programme to be released in October 2024

Call for Submissions: Publications and Films

B-Reel

B-Reel is a curated selection of film screenings that form part of Margins for Error. The programme focuses on the creativity of LGBTQIA+ activist communities and organisations across the world. It intends to highlight and share the lived experiences and imaginings of queer people.

We invite organisations and individuals to submit their films to be considered for this programme.

Between the Lines

Between the Lines is a pop-up bookshop for queer literature. We invite international organisations attending the conference and local organisations the opportunity to submit LGBTQIA+ themed books to be part of/made available in this space.

We welcome books from all genres and formats, aiming to share the rich diversity of LGBTQIA+ literature.

Submissions close on the 30th of September 2024

The programme will run from Friday 8 November to Sunday 17 November.  Bertha House joins GALA on this programme as our generous hosts in Cape Town.

For any enquiries about this programme, or if you have any suggestions of ways to get involved, please email galaarchive@gmail.com

Please note, we intend for this programme to support and generate communal space for queer people to share material and for organic conversation and connections. As we strive for accessible spaces, attendance and participation will be free. That being said, funding is limited, and GALA won't be able to accommodate submissions/proposals that require us to pay licensing fees or commissions.

This project is made possible through the generous support of SAIH, Sigrid Rousing Trust and the Norwegian Embassy in Pretoria.
