The GALA YOUth Forum
The GALA YOUth Forum (GYF) is a space created by youth, for youth. It aims to engage and gather young people to discuss and address issues that concern them. The passion lies in creating space for, documenting, and preserving the stories of Youth, with a particular focus on LGBTQIA+ Youth and their experiences.
Through this initiative, GYF engages queer youth in a robust programme that addresses issues of self-representation, activism, safety, sexual health, and the digital age. Activities include forums, the Rainbow Sports day, Holiday Programmes, and outreach programmes. GYF also operates at a national level with much involvement in Universities nationwide to promote and support space mobilisation and queer community building.
GYF solely exists to create a platform for the community to exist and complement any other (queer) youth-targeted initiatives considering that young people in Southern Africa as a whole face formidable challenges in a world of rapid social changes, economic recession, religious fundamentalism, and a widening gap between the wealthy and the poor.
