GALA Times: 2020 4/4 – The Home Edition

The final edition of GALA Times for 2020, focuses on home and belonging. At the end of a year filled with difficulty and instability, we reflect on the importance of community and support. The Archive Spotlight highlights GALA’s 2008 exhibition, Home Affairs, which was inspired by the passing of the Civil Union Act in 2006. Our programmes coordinator, Genevieve, writes about finding family in queer spaces and the GALA intern, Wenzile, shares a poem about giving thanks to her body. We introduce GALA’s upcoming book, Seeking Sanctuary: Stories of Sexuality, Faith and Migration, by John Marnell and in our Featured Fam segment, we interview the director of Pride Shelter Trust, the inspirational Nicole Jade Alexander.

The GALA staff will be taking some much needed time off for the holiday break. The offices will be closed from the 17th of December 2020 and will be reopening on the 18th of January 2021. We wish you a restful festive season. Stay home and stay safe errebody!
