Who We Work With

We collaborate with many networks and partners in order to increase our impact. These are principally in the following areas:

Hate Crimes Working Group

GALA is on the steering committee for the The Hate Crimes Working Group (HCWG), a multidisciplinary group of organisations and individuals who have been meeting and lobbying to develop interventions aimed at addressing prejudice related crime since 2009. Find out more on the Hate Crime Working Group.

National Task Team on Violence Against LGBTI People

GALA is also a civil society representative on the National Task Team on Violence Against LGBTI People. This Task Team was established by the National Department of Justice in 2011 to address issues of violence against LGBTI people in South Africa.

Civil society organisations and networks

GALA collaborates with civil society organisations and networks, both from the LGBTI sector and other sectors. GALA is a member of the Joint Working Group (JWG), a national network of LGBTI-focused organisations and programmes. Find out more on the Joint Working Group.

Academic departments and centres

We also engage with academic departments and centres to promote the use of our collections for assignments and course content. This includes taking part in designing assignments and course content, and internship agreements. GALA also collaborates with academic departments and centres on dialogues, workshops, and conferences including the Centre for Education Rights and Transformation and the Centre for Indian Studies in Africa (based at University of Johannesburg and University of the Witwatersrand respectively).
